"ai ruada" Os Gru

As you know we have a band: Os Gru.
This is the last album we've produce:

"ai ruada"is a Galician expression. Ruada is a nighttime party, a meeting in the street to dance, to sing, to have fun. Ruada is characterized by happen in public spaces, on the streets, gathering people  with the only purpose of having fun. It´s usually associated to rural.

Currently in many small villages have been lost these kind of meetings, we have stopped using public spaces for have fun, except for festivities of patron saint.
With "Ai ruada" we want to update the concept of ruada, adapting traditional songs and dances to the present. Reclaiming ruada as a link between neighbors and people of different ages having fun in common and public places. Leisure in small villages should recover ruada. Living in small villages should offer other common spaces for the party, beyond bars, open-air celebrations of a saint´s day, or romerias. We reclaim ruada as a common good.

We started from the research of historical recordings made by Alan Lomax in 1952 for his sound expeditions. The oldest sound recording of traditional music of Iberian peninsula. The music of our grandparents.
We extract varioius samplers of these recordings, in particular of the recordings made in Galicia. The idea is bring to the present that moment of tradition, with its styles and idioms. To do this we combine samples with voices of cantareiras and popular songs with electronic, hip hop and dub, among other incursions. Some songs are also recreated in medievalism, "gitaneo" and "conas ceibes". With the enriching collaboration-voice of Lúa Gándara.
We hope you like it.

After the talks we opened a panel discussion in which we analyze some specific cases of the audience.

Dio3stu at Centro Dados Negros

On the 4th of October 2014 we presented 2 sound installacions in Centro Dados Negros de la Fundación Pepe Buitrago, in Villanueva de los Infantes (Ciudad Real).

made by Vanesa Castro, Iñaki López y Julián Pérez

One piece is a Dio3stu Bag, as the one we did with Tiago Frois for NoiseMede2013.
Located in the courtyard of the Centre for its interaction with the public. Remembers to the bags with water hanging in courtyards  that people used because of flies.
This bag hangs from a nylon cord that has a piezoelectric. This piezo transmits vibration of the bag and the cord to a mixer, which applies an echo effect to the signal, what is amplyfied. We incorporated a led with high intensity to the bag.

.

The other piece is a dio3stu Grapevine. A grapevine is a very particular element of the culture of Infantes, a good grapevine gives a long fire.  It incorporates an Arduino sequencer with 8 steps, based on the http://www.beavisaudio.com/projects/digital/ArduinoPunkConsole/ to which we made it a circuit bending. It has also a galvanometer that shows variation of the sequence.

Result in grapevine are several physical contact resistances (on the horns of this grapevine) which modify the time and frequence of the sequence. It also incorporates a sampler circuit ISD1820 Sound / Voice Recording and Playback Module Board (3~5V)  which we have made it a bending taking out a potentiometer and a photosensitive cell with a led with high intensity.

.

The sound poem which is activated in the yellow button are words from Infantes related to the  grapevine itself:
la era, las gavillas, los sarmientos, la Antigua, la cocinilla, lo negro (field, sheafs, vine shoots, la Antigua, stove, the black).
The voice was generated with a digital voice and the sampler also has the sound of a flute.
The words are understood when photosensitive cell is activated (green button), when it is off, the bowels of the grapevine can be heard.
